| Data & Research - Applications SHIP VETTING - Our data is used in some of the leading tanker and bulk ship vetting systems. These systems use the data to supplement their own surveyor inspection reports and information from terminals where ships have called. On this basis they can decide whether a ship presented for charter is a soundly operatedvessel in good condition or a ship that should be rejected because of her condition, history, or record of casualties, ISM and Port State control detentions.
- These systems also view previous charter history.
GOVERNMENT AGENCIES & REGULATORY AUTHORITIES - A wide range of government agencies ranging from defence, transport, port state control, customs, coastguard and registration authorities use theextensive fleet and data characteristics that are available exclusively from Lloyd's Register - Fairplay.
- We are the only organisation that has comprehensive information on all vessels of 100GT and over, particularly with regard to smaller trading vessels.
- The data can also be supplied or processed as statistical analyses, to allow the monitoring of newbuilding and operational trends in the world fleet.
- Registration authorities use our up-to-date information to monitor transfer of flag.
- Our data is used by the three leading port state control authorities, and by Equasis.
CHARTERING - Our data is used in the major charter broker in-house systems, such as those supplied by Strategic, Dataworks and Square Mile Marine and in one of the new charter online platforms: AXS Marine. The data is used for pre-fixture research, matching cargoes to available ships and ships to port facilities.
- Our distance table is used within voyage estimating programs.
- The databases can also be used by charterers and brokers for ship vetting, as described above.
PRODUCT MANUFACTURERS & SUPPLIERS - Information on shipyard orders and contact details at the earliest possible stage of the newbuilding process can be supplied so that manufacturers canget ahead of the competition.
- Extracts from our ships database provide a base system to which suppliers can add their own equipment details and specifications, linked to theship and owners.
- The total size of markets and market shares can be identified for individual products.
- Fleet trading patterns provide a basis for locating supplies and service centres.
- Port expected and ETAs provide market opportunities.

We can supply you with ownership, operator and shipmanager details needed to make contact.
- A precise guide to the overall size of an engine market, its rate of growth or decline and your share of it is also available in terms of output (hp or kW).
- Many ports use the Lloyd's Register - Fairplay data for tonnage measurement and calculation of fees.
- Port callings of chartered tonnage can be analysed.
PAINT AND COATINGS MANUFACTURERS - Ship characteristics and ownership data can be incorporated into in-house systems to log the paint specification and grade against individual ships. This is particularly useful for the supplier when small batches of paint are urgently needed or when dry-docking is imminent.
- Newbuildings data can be utilised to locate new orders and therefore, new customers on a geographic basis.
