 | Fairplay Awareness Briefing MARPOL: Clearing the Air over Annex VI
MARPOL Annex VI came into force last year setting limits on content in fuel and specifying construction requirements for engines to control sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides emissions. Yet it was immediately criticised by industry and regulators alike as difficult and confusing to implement, leaving as many questions unanswered as it has provided solutions. Indeed, there have already been calls for numerous amendments and clarifications.
This Awareness Briefing aims to cover many of these issues and problems and to suggest potential answers. Clearly, to determine fully how it will affect ships and operating strategies, it is essential to understand the practical impact of the Annex.
